789 MUAY THAI ACADEMY

Welcome to our Club!

Located in central Auckland, we welcome all ages, skill levels, and genders. We don’t see ourselves as just a gym — we’re a community, a club of like-minded people who share the same passion and interests.
Welcome to our Muay Thai club, where passion meets expertise!
Founded by two dedicated trainers from America and Russia, we are committed to promoting the art of Muay Thai and building a vibrant community.
Inspired by the humorous wisdom of "7 ate 9," we believe that with the right technique, even the smallest can overcome the largest challenges.
Join us and discover how skill can triumph over sheer strength, empowering you to face life's obstacles head-on!

USA
Steven Ray Lyons
Welcome to Mr. Lyons' Muay Thai classes, where kicking and punching is just as fun as it sounds! With 15 years under his belt (and probably a few bruises too), he brings his ice hockey experience to the ring, teaching teamwork and commitment—because who doesn’t love a good team effort when you're dodging a flying elbow? Known for breaking down complicated moves like a pro chef with a recipe, Steven guarantees you’ll leave with skills that’ll make you feel like a martial arts ninja! So, lace up those gloves and get ready to unleash your inner warrior!

New Zealand
Mike "Uncle Mike" Olsen
Uncle Mike is the head coach for our 789 fight team and a true Muay Thai veteran. With years of experience in the ring and in the corner, he’s trained fighters across all levels – from fresh beginners to seasoned pros.
He’s not just passionate about the sport – he lives and breathes Thai culture (seriously, the guy could run a travel agency in Bangkok).
Follow Mike on Instagram and book in a private session – but get in quick, he books out fast!

Russia
Taras "Igorevich" Barbashin
Igorevich kicked off his Muay Thai adventure 15 years ago in Russia, trying out more martial arts than a kid in a candy store—judo, karate, Army Hand Fight, boxing, and kickboxing! After a whirlwind career with around 40 fights (that's a lot of bruises!), he figured out the secret sauce for helping fighters snag those W's. With all that experience under his belt, he’s ready to dish out some hilarious wisdom and train the next generation of champions—because who wouldn’t want to get schooled by a guy who’s tried it all?

Katareena "Kat" Chevale

Kat’s got a real passion for martial arts and brings great energy to every session. Whether you're looking to get fit, boost your confidence, or just meet some cool people – Kat's got you covered.
